060. Baubles, bangles, and the like.

I can't believe I've gone this long without dedicating a post entirely to Iosselliani. In one of my very first posts, I showcased a ring of theirs. Their product line continues to prosper - it's sold at Barneys Co-Op, among other high-end stores and online boutiques - and I'd really like to mention the brand more in detail.

What I really like about Iosselliani is that it pretty much stays true to form from year to year. That's why jewelry lines can be nice: they don't succumb as easily to trends. Iosselliani falls into the "trash = treasure" style category. The jewelry is a little bit raw, a little bit clunky. Often pieces are combined, and one single ring is a combination of several rings fused together. Iosselliani does not try to segregate gemstones into separate "expensive" and "inexpensive" pieces, either. One of my favorite rings is one that combines a garnet, a river pearl, and several different striations of metal together.

But pictures speak louder than words, so here are a few samples of Iosselliani jewelry:

I'm sure there's jewelry in there somewhere. (below)

Their e-store isn't currently working, but you can still purchase jewelry from their line on websites such as ShopGinny, BonaDrag, and Tobi.

Don't ask me how I found this blog, as, in short, I am very drunk right now, and I am not quite sure what I am doing in this particular section of cyberspace. Anyway, I was a student with you at Delaware, who you may remember, if at all, as a creepy stoner type who liked to ramble pretentiously. I've since changed my act. I remember you, if I'm remembering correctly, which I may not be, for I've been drinking, as you were the most articulate person in class, (though a bit overdressed for 10 am w/ Flynn gold snake earrings, yes.) You were a true literati (litarati-ess?) & poetess, truly memorable, Summer, and I've forgotten just about everyone else. Anyway, this is just to say that it sucks to see you waisting yr mind on this Fashion pap. You should be writing poems & translating the Iliad! That's my advice. In conclusion, Jeremy (long-haired, insert-flattering-term, insert-flattering-term, etc)...

Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!

Jeremy, hello. It is truly amazing, is it not, what one can stumble upon when drunk and in close proximity to a computer. I do wonder how you found this blog of mine.

Of course I love fashion - though to be honest, less "fashion," more "clothing" - but it's just a hobby of mine, one I have cultivated for a long time. It's part of my expression of identity. This blog is an opportunity for me to record particular interests of mine, but it is by no means my only pastime.

Of course I remember you! We shared so many classes, and I recall your oft-arcane commentaries and observations. I always felt frustrated that none of the other students exhibited a genuine interest in discussing course material. You and I were two of those rare few, and I felt a sense of camaraderie with you.

I'm in law school right now, but I'm leaning more towards a professorship, if indeed legal studies do end up taking a part in my future. Sometimes I think there's nothing that I would enjoy more than secreting myself in a dusty library, poring over musty tomes of English Romantic literature. But I'm not sure where I'll end up yet.

What have you been up to? I'm curious. :)

And thank you, Anonymous!

Law huh? I remember you telling me once, now that you mention it, that you were heading to law school, although I'm surprised you didn't go in for a PhD in English. I know what you mean about feeling frustrated by our old anti-intellectual copesmates. You stood out (at least to me), because you seemed into the stuff that most people weren't into and spoke in complete often quite elegant sentences without the usual scattering of extraneous “likes” and “uhs.” I'm sure you'll make a good lawyer or law-professor or whatever you want to make yourself into and imagine law will let you indulge your bookish side

(or at least in my vision of the southern patrician Atticus-Finchish-type who wears long, brown, formal box-pleated jackets and writes intricate legal statements containing occasional allusions to Shakespeare).

I wish I felt I were destined for that kind of career, myself, actually. I have been leading for the past year or so an irratic, nocturnal, hermetic existence, venturing to Newark's homologous pubs at night and working on arcane literary projects after closing time. (I should say, writing bad, bilgy, pukish stuff). I got into both PhD and MFA programs at a couple of places last year but turned down the offers because of a lack of nous and confidence. I'm reapplying again this year—rather do the MFA , the only question being if I have the guts and cash. Shit, this sounds pretentious.

Anyway, sorry I said you were wasting your mind on this stuff. This is actually a very beautiful blog and I like clothes myself, or more accurately, I like the vocabulary of clothes. I was dating (briefly) a fashion and merchandising major a few years ago and one of my favorite things to do with her was to a sit by a big glass window of some cafe or other and listen to her critique the outfits of the women who walked past. "She's wearing," she would say "a feather-shirred, boat-necked, cobalt-blue, honey-comb pleated, coach-patterned......" (underpants! I'd usually blurt)...Typically she started this description when the victim appeared at one end of the window and finished it by the time she got to the other end.

Anyway, if you ever want to talk about books or poems or foreign films or something, my 'dress is offatheking@ gmail (very bookish address) since I would enjoy having a literary pen-pal such as yourself. Sorry for rambling like this on your blog—I am usually worse at disciplining my demon when I am sober—and just realized how little this has to do with baubles or bangles.
